I'll be there for you...

Today I read a status message in Google Talk that read:

So no one told you life was going to be this way.
Your job's a joke, you're broke, you're love life's DOA.
It's like you're always stuck in second gear,
Well, it hasn't been your day, your week, your month, or even your year.

I thought these were the lines written by that person n complimented her!!! And she said...those are not mine, that is title track of famous TV serial F.R.I.E.N.D.S. :(



And I was so surprised!!! I have watched Friends a zillion times...have almost all Seasons on my hard disk and watch it often...and still I could not recollect that it was Title Track of Friends.

Firstly, when I watch it on Laptop or DVD player I forward the title track, so till date I have not listened to the entire track even once! (As in paid attention to lyrics and meaning...)

Secondly, I remembered the tune rather than lyrics. So when I read those words (without music/tune) I could not recognize...

So now I am going through the lyrics and understanding the meaning of it and find that it is very poetic!!! With or without music; with or without being Title track of TV serial...

Sometimes even the thing you know (or you think you know!) could be a complete revelation when viewed from a different lens...

कूट-प्रश्न

नुकतंच एक मराठी कोडं/कूट-प्रश्न वाचण्यात आला...ते इथं देत आहे...

मराठीत एकच अक्षर चार वेळा आलेले चार अक्षरी चारच शब्द आहेत.(मामा-मामी,काका-काकी असे जोड शब्द नव्हेत) ते कोणते .

याचं उत्तर मलाही माहिती नव्हतं, पण तेही वाचण्यात आलं...त्यामुळे मला चारही शब्द माहिती आहेत (आणि ते थोडे विवादास्पद उत्तर आहे असेही वाटतंय)

नासाचे अंतराळयान आणि मराठी भाषा

नुकताच मी युनेस्को च्या अहवालानुसार जगातील विविध भाषांची क्रमवारी वाचत होतो...मराठी बोलणाऱ्यांच्या संख्येनुसार मराठीचा क्रमांक १६-१७ वा आहे, इटालियन, कोरीअन, पोलीश, डच, स्वीडीश अशा अनेक प्रादेशिक भाषांपेक्षाही वर.

अजून एक interesting गोष्ट मला कळली, ती म्हणजे नासा नी व्हॊएजर नावचं एक यान अंतराळात सोडलं होतं. त्या यानाबरोबर विविध गोष्टी पाठवल्या होत्या - म्हणजे समजा कोणी परग्रहावर माणूस किंवा सजीव प्राणी असलाच तर त्याला आपल्याइथल्या वस्तु, संस्क्रुती, समाज यांची माहिती किंवा तोंडओळख व्हावी यासाठी एक ध्वनीमुद्रिका पाठवली होती. त्यात जगातल्या ५५ प्रमुख भाषांमध्ये एक संदेश होता. ज्यात मराठीचाही समावेश होता. (मराठी संदेश तुम्ही इथे ऐकू शकता)

’नमस्कार, या प्रुथ्वीतील लोक तुम्हाला त्यांचे शुभविचार पाठवतात. आणि त्यांची इच्छा आहे की तुम्ही या जन्मी धन्य हो’

तो संदेश ऐकून माझा अंगाचा तिळपापड झाला, लाही लाही झाली, चिडचिड, जळजळ, उद्रेक, विस्फोट इ. इ. जे जे शक्य आहे ते सगळं झालं. किती बिनडोक संदेश आहे, काही अर्थच नाही...अशक्य आचरटपणा!

इतके अशुद्ध मराठी उच्चार, भाषा आणि इतका सुमार संदेश. आणि तोही इतक्या ऐतिहासिक आणि खगोलिक (भौगोलिक च्या धर्तीवर हा शब्द मी आत्ताच तयार केला आहे!) अंतराळ यात्रेसाठी. म्हणजे उद्या समजा खरच परग्रहावर कोणी सजीव प्राणी असलाच आणि त्यानी हा मराठी संदेश ऐकला तर त्याचा मराठी भाषेबद्दल किती गैरसमज होईल...पार लाज जाईल आपली. समजा त्यातला एखादा (ह्रितिक रोशनच्या कोई मिल गया मधल्या ’जादू’ सारखा) पुण्यात आला चुकून...आणि ’हीच का तुमची मराठी भाषा’ असं मला विचारलं...तर? तोंड दाखवायला जागा राहणार नाही मला...

अजून एक गंमत म्हणजे, याच संदेशांबरोबर ’Music from Earth’ या शीर्षकाखाली प्रुथ्वीवरचं विविध देशातील संगीताचा समावेश होता (उदा. अमेरिका, मेक्सिको, अझरबैजान, पेरु, ऒस्ट्रेलिया इ.). त्यात भारतीय शास्त्रीय संगीताचा नमूना म्हणून सूरश्री केसरबाई केरकर यांची ’जात कहा हो’ ही साडेतीन मिनिटाची बंदिश ही होती.

ते वाचून मला इतकं नवल वाटलं...की सगळं सोडून त्यांना ’केसरबाई केरकर’ च का सुचाव्यात? म्हणजे माझं केरकर बाईंशी तसं काही वैयक्तिक वाकडं नाही. पण भारतातच ते किती जणांनी ऐकलं असेल काय माहिती, आणि मग परग्रहावरच्या सजीवांना आपल्या संगीताचा हा असा नमूना कशाला? कदाचित ’जात कहा हो’ वगैरे बंदीश त्या सजीवाला अर्थपूर्ण वाटेल असा काहीतरी विचार असावा.

ज्यांनी कोणी हा मराठी संदेश आणि हे भारतीय संगीत निवडले असेल त्यांचा जाहीर सत्कार करून त्यांना त्यांचे मौलिक विचार स्पष्ट करायला लावले पाहिजेत!

पण त्यांची तरी काय चूक? हे यान अंतराळात जाऊन तिथे पोचायलाच २५-३० वर्षे लागतात. व्होएजर-१ १९७७ च्या आसपास पाठवले आणि त्याचा प्रवास २०१५ मध्ये पूर्ण होणार आहे. म्हणजे इतके वर्ष जूना संदेश आणि संगीत असलं तर ते आत्ता आऊटडेटेडच वाटणार...विशेषतः मराठी भाषेतला संदेश.

आफ्टरऒल मराठी बरं का, हॆज चेंजड सो म्हणजे सो मच...इन लास्ट २५ ईअर्स...की काही विच्चारू नका!!
